The Role of Acupuncture in Pain Management
Pain relief is something that many people seek every day. For those with chronic back problems, aching joints, stomach ailments, headaches, or other types of continuous pain, relief can sometimes seem like an impossible dream.
If you suffer from constant pain, you know what it is like. You can’t work, you don’t feel like eating, and sleep only comes in brief periods if at all. Getting some pain relief becomes the primary thought on your mind throughout each day. For many people being in pain becomes a way of life; if there is never an end to the pain, it turns into something that is just always there. Just going through the day becomes a burden; life is no longer enjoyable.
These are the things we hear when patients come to our Acupuncture Pain Relief Center seeking pain relief. In many cases, the patient has already been to a “traditional” doctor and was not satisfied with the results. A prescription of pain pills may provide some temporary pain relief, but it does not really provide a solution to the problem, and there are other factors to consider as well. While on pain medication, you may not be able to work or drive your car, and it may even be difficult to have normal interaction with other people.
Our Approach to Pain Management
Our approach to treating pain is different, as Chinese medicine is different than western medicine. The body must be in balance and in harmony; when this is not the case, the common result is pain. Rather than just mask the pain with drugs, we want to offer the patient an approach that is more all-encompassing.
Chinese Pain Relief Methods
We offer pain relief solutions through methods that have been in use for more than 5000 years in China. These include:
Acupuncture
This is probably our most popular and most requested treatment, even though most of our new patients have never experienced the benefits of acupuncture. There are actually several different procedures that all fall under the category of “acupuncture”. We can explain these when you come in for a consultation, and let you know how it works and what kind of results you may expect.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Herbs are an essential component of Chinese medicine. Herbs (mostly Chinese plants) are combined together to make a formula that is designed to treat a particular condition or disease. There are many, many ways to prepare Chinese herbs, but the end goal is always to bring back harmony to the body, which in turn provides pain relief.
Tuina Massage Therapy
This type of massage therapy is not something that you would experience by visiting a typical masseuse or chiropractor. Tuina combines a variety of massage techniques and also utilizes herbal poultices and liniments to complement the treatment. You need to experience this in order to understand the relaxing and healing effects.
